It’s a rainy Monday in August and I am feeling like summer is slipping away. One thing I love almost as much as summer itself is summer movies! When life is too busy, too wet or too cold for the beach, there are movies to remind you of what you’re missing.
Here are my top 10 picks for the best summer movies. I didn’t spend too much time thinking about this because it’s summer and ain’t nobody got time for that.
The Parent Trap (The 1961 version)
Fried Green Tomatoes
Jaws: “You’re gonna need a bigger boat”
The Way, Way Back
The Sandlot
The Man in the Moon
Call Me By Your Name
Dirty Dancing
My Girl
Stand By Me
***
Honourable mentions:
Point Break: Feels summery and any excuse to watch Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves is worth it but is it summer movie or is it just a California surfing movie?
Dazed and Confused: It’s not really summer, it’s the last day of school. It’s like how National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is not actually a Christmas movie because we never get to Christmas day!
Moonrise Kingdom: Because Wes Anderson + New England + Camp = perfection
The Notebook: Allie and Noah’s love story starts in the summer and that’s the best part… like how Beaches starts and ends during the summer but the rest of the movie is not great.
500 Days of Summer: Obviously, only for the love of the movie title.
