Sorry, I am grumpy,

Here’s the thing. One of the not-so-glamorous parts of my job is ad-work and when a client isn’t able to do it themselves, they send you all of their images (which are web-quality) and if I am really lucky, I get a layout they designed in Word for visual reference. However, most often things go smoothly and a happy, easy-to-please client = a happy designer.

But last week I got this as feedback:

“You removed all of my embedded commands and hypnotic suggestions. This is the down side to people who do ads for a living, very few know how the unconscious mind works. There was a reason for the structure I used. The move of the ph# to the bottom is ok, but the rest pretty much has to go back, there are reasons for minute shifts in colour and size of the script as well. I know it didn’t fit as cleanly as I’d like which the ph# move may fix, and I’d love your help with that, but this isn’t the way I want it to look.”

WHAT?

I screamed (perk to working from home) and then reworked the ad using the TIMES BOLD ITALIC typeface (underlined of course) and sent back a new layout. Here’s the reply:

This looks better, I like the lightened background, but there is still some improvements needed with the text… The font type you have is fine. I’d like you to notice what I write here below and how it is compared to what you have ….

The way this paragraph is written is full of hypnotic suggestions and embedded commands that are lacking in the presentation you have… this is what the Unconscious Mind sees.  In your presentation it is simply a random sentence. The structure and size is extremely important, even a .5pt increase in font size makes a big difference. In print .5 larger is ok, it’s too small for the conscious mind to pick up, but enough for the unconscious to notice. 

I simply put the file together in paint, so I don’t have the layers as you had requested.  Simply adjust the overall font sizes to make it fit with the format I’d like.
