Fall is not my thing. That said, my motto is: accept and proceed; buy hand warmers and adapt.
A few people have asked what’s on my Fall must-do list and I’m quick to say nothing because I am still mourning Summer but my friend Sophie requested we try and make the most of the season. And try I shall. Here’s her list which I am going to work through… even the pumpkin stuff.
Sophie’s Fall Bucket List
Drink a Fall Seasonal Drink (unironically)
Wear a tartan skirt with a turtleneck
Watch the sunrise
Hike in the Adirondacks = Hike
Go apple picking
Wear a beret
Watch Meghan’s must-see movies: Dirty Dancing and Pump Up the Volume (This is basically me threatening Sophie – I can’t believe she hasn’t watched Dirty Dancing!)
Make butter tarts
Create a Halloween costume
Walk in Central Park while the leaves are changing = Any park will do
Drink mulled wine or a hot apple cider (like an actual one, not powder)
Weekly fall manicure = I am aiming for 1 fall manicure
Drink 2L of water per day (that’s a lot!)
Wear stylish outfits for one week straight
Cook egg-bites (or go to Starbucks)
Go to a trivia night with friends
Build a cornucopia
Visit with an old friend
Go to high tea = or just tea, we don’t need to be fancy.
Visit a museum exhibit
Stroll ALL of Mount-Royal = stroll around the neighbourhood, visit stores I pass by and never go in.
Cook and eat Coddled Eggs
Stoke a fire
*modified for people outside of Montreal and who will not be visiting New York City any time soon.(image)
Finish The Office: I am on S5:E5, so I feel good about completing this one.
Finish my office: The plan was to have my new office space ready for September which did not happen. I’m now aiming for Christmas – gas fireplace and all!
Learn to enjoy red wine again: I took a break from it over the summer after a poor decision (don’t buy cheap American wine, don’t get the flu)
But also… Complete the Whole 30 #Whole30November: I am building a team. We can do this. Who’s in?
Bangs, do it! Why not? How bad can it be?
Get back into daily planking: Fun fact, side planking is good for scoliosis. I have a rod so I don’t think it matters but, I am sure planking has other benefits.
Design print and distribute my calendars before mid-December: Another summer goal that got bumped. Question, should I repeat the Hello theme but with new imagery?
Make use of my Canada Games Centre membership and SWIM! Seriously, David is in the pool three days a week… I need to take advantage of this time.
Pottery, photography, and paint: I have already started my 10-week pottery class and have made a few fun things including a deformed cat dish for my non-existent cat. There’s an online photography course I’d like to enroll in and painting is part of my office update.
I am feeling crafty. Teacher friends: Is it a total faux-pas to make crafts as thank you gifts for the holiday? Something like this for their desk? Should I include a bottle of wine? Or should I just go with the Lush gift pack?
I want to enrol in a wreath making workshop – a classy one, not a big chain store kind (because I am a snob)… I am stocking the Flower Shop but may end up following an online tutorial. Like this
Have a great weekend. Mine’s jammed pack with goodness – The Movember Run with Henry, a Uuni night, David’s Youth Run Series wrap up party and Henry’s 11th birthday!psst. If you like what you’re reading, please subscribe and share. xomeg
I dislike winter, but I think I dislike Game of Thrones More….
Still friends? Moving on.
Fall is over. Done! Did you accomplish everything on your list? I didn’t but that’s okay. After all, It is the time of year when you should be thankful for all of the amazing stuff you DID accomplish this year and start planning all of the things you will and won’t attempt to do in 2016. That list is coming… but today, I’m looking back at what happened from October 1 to December 21 – Feeling it. Falling for it
Write 2-3 posts a week – Yes! Mostly two but was anyone counting?
Wallpaper something – No. I will keep adding this to my lists until I actually do it.
Paint something – Yes! We still have not tackle our bathroom update but I painted my sister’s bathroom vanity. Chalk paint for the win.
Run a marathon – Yes! Chicago. (warning, Chicago comes up often on this list)
Rake leaves– Yes! And in all honesty, I’d rather shovel. Say it ain’t so.
Carve a pumpkin– Yes! We asked random trick-or-treaters who’s pumpkin was the best and David won. So much for the classics.
Avoid all things pumpkin flavoured. Unless in a pie– Yes! I ate a slice of pie and avoided everything else despite the marketing overload.
Visit the beach – Yes! We went for a walk on the Gulf Shore in Pugwash on a beautiful fall day.
Sharpen the skates and skis – No. But we need to. The Oval is opening soon and Mike is checking the webcam at the ski hill daily.
Visit the valley – Yes! Amanda and I took David to the valley in search of some pumpkins and fall foliage.
Conquer a corn maze – Yes! At the Lincoln Park Zoo, Chicago. They have nothing on the size of both the maze and the stalks in comparison to the valley.
Pick apples – Meh. We did go to the valley to pick apples but didn’t actually pick apples. We picked out apples from the local market in the valley and I did pick some crab apples off the ground of my backyard.
Make apple pie – Yes! Yum.
Watch season 1 of Game of Thrones – Yes! We are on season 4.
Make my 2016 calendars – Yes! I’ll show you later.
Make my 2015 holiday cards – Yes! And a newsletter too.
24 Yeses, 3 Mehs and 3 Nos… I’ll take it as a win. I am actually excited for a new season and especially excited for a new year. Have a safe and happy holiday and may you check everything off your list!
