oh, life could be a dream

I was about to title this post Cottage Country until I realized I have already written not one, but two posts titled Cottage Country (here and here). Fire the editor!

It’s cottage season and these days, it seems like more and more people own cottages. We don’t but, every time we visit my parents on the Wallace River, I spend the drive home on Realtor.ca scoping out what’s available in the area; my criteria being: Waterfront (river or ocean). Close to Pugwash but on the Wentworth side. Maybe Tatamagouche? Near the trails. Winterized for ski season…

And then Mike reminds me that my parents have all that and more at their place, and it’s free, so why do we need to own a cottage? (love you mom and dad). So no cottage for us right now.

That doesn’t stop me from dreaming, and for as long as I can remember, my dream has been to own/build an A-Frame. There are actually two A-Frames in my ideal cottage location that I have been eying and if one goes up for sale I may loose my mind.

Below is an assortment of drool-worthy A-Frames. Cue the music and enjoy!

Friday’s online finds: Inspirational, educational or just silly. Here is what I found this week…

Have a great weekend! Good luck to all the swimmers doing the BIG SWIM… not too late to donate.

Photos from last weekend – when we left the province, I swam in a lake, attempted to wake-surf, drank beer from a cooler and played washer-toss. Lots of checks-off the summer to-do list! Cottage time on BelleIsle Bay in New Brunswick with our friends. Do you think David had fun?

Have a great weekend! I just finished a 32km run and we’re heading out of province to our friend’s cottage in New Brunswick tonight! I still have some big sunny summer items to tackle on my 100 days 0f summer to-do list (like swim in a lake!) so it should be a great weekend.

Here are some pictures from last weekend’s Not Since Moses Run and kayaking on the Wallace River.

cottage country

Last month’s issue of Style at Home Magazine was all about cottages. I was very excited because although I do not own a cottage, I would like to. I would mostly like to decorate a cottage. And, when I think cottage, I think gingham, rustic, sea glass, navy, a wee bit nautical (but only if my cottage was on the water… which it will be, obviously.)

Anyway, I dove into the issue with excitement but quickly discovered page after page of +2,000 square foot ‘cottages’ and almost all of them were located in Cottage Country, Ontario. Disappointed! I am sorry, but I do not feel like a mansion on a lake with an additional boat house that was decorated and designed by a professional qualifies as a cottage. Just me? Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate these homes – for the most part, they’re stunning – it’d just be nice to see a bit of variety. It would also be nice to see more regions, after all, living in Nova Scotia means we know cottages too!3b25ce9a8fc8e097a05153f917ca74de

And speaking of the Nova Scotia, last weekend my sisters and I took our mom on an overnight trip to a cottage in Parrsboro for her birthday. Riverview Cottages are pretty basic but you really don’t need more (besides a bit more water in the river…)  Check it out. This is rustic, but charming. I am pretty sure my cottage will be a little more white-washed but I’d take one of these! I certainly don’t expect an Editor of a magazine to coming running to shoot a spread but I know a little paint and love can go a long way.DSC_0386DSC_0368DSC_0385 DSC_0369DSC_0370DSC_0372DSC_0374DSC_0376 DSC_0379DSC_0380DSC_0383DSC_0390 DSC_0391DSC_0392DSC_0387 DSC_0393

How about you? What is your idea of a perfect cottage and where would it be?

Have a fantastic weekend. I am heading to Pugwash – my sister and her family are in town from New York and there is a mother-daughter cottage-celebration planned for Sunday night. photo
