wedding weekend recap

Aimee and Caylum are married!

Want to see some pics? There are a lot, and they’re not great because I was busy enjoying the party, but we don’t judge. right? First off, it was such a treat – and by far the most involved I’ve been in a wedding from start to end (besides mine). I appreciate that they let a rookie* take over the design and some of the planning.

First up, at the beginning of the year the initial print items were developed, including the invite, RSVP postcard and information card. Aimee sent me an inspiration board on Pinterest and we talked about fonts and colours that best matched their taste but also complimented the venue, which was a pavilion at a vineyard in the valley.Design-1Once the invites were sent out, more pieces were developed for the wedding day including signs, the seating chart, a guest card and a mad libs to keep the guests entertained. The table numbers were attached to corks and labels were put on the wine bottles for each table.Design-2 Design-3As mentioned, the wedding took place at a vineyard and the weather was hot, sunny and there was a full moon at night. The Bride was smart to suggest making the programme a fan – the guests certainly appreciated the gesture although I am sure her assembly crew (aka bridesmaids) did not enjoy all of the cutting and hole punching.DSC_0133 DSC_0143

The day before the wedding, we arrived on site at lunch and started putting the space together. There were already strings of white lights up but everything else was brought in and the girls made the bouquets, boutonnieres and table arrangements on site. Tim, the tulle man spent the day on the ladder while the tables were set and most everything was put out.DSC_0111DSC_0119 DSC_0115 DSC_0112DSC_0116DSC_0129And here is the room coming together. DSC_0117 DSC_0120 DSC_0122DSC_0148 DSC_0147 DSC_0150 photo 2 photo 3 photo 4DSC_0127DSC_0132Because the floor was cobblestone, the couple provided flip flops for dancing. DSC_0124A special bouquet and candle were put on display for Aimee’s mother. DSC_0123On the morning of the wedding, a few finishing touches were done outside while the music was tested and the wine was poured. DSC_0134 DSC_0136 DSC_0142Finally, the Bride arrived (on time!) and the wedding began. DSC_0151 DSC_0158Once the ceremony and dinner were over, me my lovely friends (and team) and I took a few photos.DSC_0174 photo 1photo 22 photo 44Sparkles were lit when the sun went down.DSC_0227 DSC_0232 DSC_0234 DSC_0236And the tables moved to the side for dancing. I wish these photos turned out, wrong lens, wrong settings, but you get the picture. Good times.DSC_0237DSC_0269DSC_0301DSC_0322Congratulations Aimee and Caylum.

hoping for plenty of Sweet Caroline

This weekend is shaping up to be great for an official start to my wedding season. And what a start it is! I am excited to be a part of my dear friend’s wedding in the valley – and am lucky to have such a fun project to work on… print and prep galore.

So far, it is looking like I will be a guest at two weddings this summer and working at four as an photographer’s assistant. Can’t wait!

One sneak peak but don’t worry, there will be plenty of pictures to come.

Enjoy your weekend. Aimee

banner up

The third wedding shower post this week is all about the banner.

When we (the Bride and one of her bridesmaids) visited the venue in March, I noticed there was a great place to hang a banner along the beam that separates the raised platform from the rest of the pavilion. The head table will be up on the platform with the Bride and Groom at centre stage so I thought it be fun to hang a lovely message over their heads: CAYLUM LOVES AIMEE. And, to make things easy for the guests, it will be the official hashtag of the event.  #caylumlovesaimee

<My mom says what? A hashtag for an event is a basically a method of linking common communication through social media. If you want to post a remark or photo of the big day on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. use the selected hashtag so you can share your stuff with fellow wedding guests and their network.>

Anyway… back to the banner.

Aimee and Caylum’s wedding is at a vineyard so imagine gold, cream, champagne, corks, burlap, barrels and wine. With this in mind, I decided to go with a burlap backing and printed letters on top. Here are the steps:

  • First, I found a roll of burlap at MichaelsDSC_0991
  • I cut the burlap into 4 x 5 inch squares
  • I printed and cut each letter to fit individually on a burlap squareDSC_0996
  • I rounded the corners of each letter with a rounded paper cutterDSC_0998
  • I used Mod Podge to glue the letters to the burlapDSC_1002
  • With a small hole punch, I punched the top corners of each letter
  • And finally, I weaved twine through the holes and separated the letters appropriatelyDSC_1014

Voilà! An easy banner!DSC_1016

picture perfect

Earlier this week I mentioned that I’d show you how to make a simple photo booth backdrop.

You will need

  • 2 X Gold Foil Doorway Curtains (I got mine from Party City)
  • Oh Joy! for Target 12 piece Wall Decals
  • Tape
  • Clothespins (or something to hang the curtains from)
  • Tripod and camera
  • Silly props (optional)

For me, the easiest place to hang a photo booth backdrop was from the frame of a window. That way, I didn’t need to tape anything to the walls. However, because I used a window frame, I had to hang a large grey blanket behind the tinsel to hide any background outside. Our windows have great ledges so it was easy to hang both the blanket and foil curtains with clothespins.

I found (on clearance!) these wall decals and taped them to the foil for a bit more excitement.circlesDSC_1021And voila! An easy photo booth back drop. IMG_0657DSC_0002DSC_0011DSC_1031DSC_1052DSC_1055 Oh, and here is David testing out the props before the party.DSC_1024psst. a shower for the bride

It is Aimee and Caylum’s wedding in three weeks and to celebrate the bride, we hosted a shower this weekend at my place and I thought it would be fun to share some pictures of the day.

Here is the invitation I made which was sent out by email. Shower-1We started the day off at the spa getting mani and pedis.IMG_0669Then we went back to the house. The evening was spent with a great group of Aimee’s friends, family and family-to-be.

The baby’s breath will be at the wedding so we filled the house with arrangements.DSC_0037And added some corks because the wedding will be at a vineyard.DSC_0039I made a banner for the shower and wedding venue – plus, it’s a reminder of the hashtag for the event. #caylumlovesaimeeDSC_1016Erin made the Barefoot Contessa’s Rossinis as the custom cocktail.DSC_1028And she made three amazing quiche (mushroom and fontana cheese, spinach red pepper and feta, and arugula and bacon)DSC_1029The menu also included

  • Hot goat cheese dip and baguettes
  • Roasted red pepper dip with pita
  • Green salad with lemon dressing
  • Bruchetta
  • Brownies (Aimee’s mom’s recipe)
  • Feta, mint, water melon and tomato, basil, bocconcini skewers*

IMG_0671The favour was a bottle of nail polish.IMG_0674And, what is a party these days without a photo booth.DSC_0011DSC_1052DSC_0002Come back later this week for DIY details on how to make the banner and photo booth

* Plus, here is a picture of the skewers – I painted the ends with white and yellow. A very easy project!DSC_1011IMG_0627
