How’s everyone’s summer so far?

It occurred to me that I haven’t had a paid holiday or paid vacation day since 2007… Hello 10-year itch! Freelance life has been busy, and I am very grateful but I’d rather be at the beach.

But friends, this is not a rant, rather a plea. Summer is almost over and I only have sixty out of 100 items checked off my 100 days of summer list.

A few of the remaining forty are ongoing (like only use the clothesline) and others are solely up to me (clean my car) but here are a few that you’re welcome to sign up for. Give me a call, and let’s make it happen!

Grade one is over! Summer Starts Now!

IMG_5749I feel like David kind of turned into a seven-year-old punk. Hats were lost, teeth fell out, glasses were replaced but we all survived.  Grade1I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful holiday and you all check everything off your list! Here is David’s Summer Bucket List:IMG_5739

patterns and sparkle (part 2)

Last Wedding Wednesday, for the Navy by the Sea wedding series, I looked at navy and nautical patterns and now it’s time to add sparkle to the day with some gold decor!

Most of the items above are either relatively affordable (B/E/G/J/L/O) or something you can make yourself (A/C/D/F/H/K/M/P) but I added I and N because even though they’re more expensive, they would look stunning. Plus, if you splurge on a few pieces like these, they can carry on into your home decor.

I am loving K! My friend made these for her son’s nursery and imagine them hanging in a tent in place of lanterns. I also love F – they’d be easy and affordable to make and I happen to know there are an abundance of hydrangea trees at the wedding site that would fill them beautifully.

patterns and sparkle (part 1)

Last Wedding Wednesday I launch the Navy by the Sea wedding I am working on and as mentioned, Navy will be the primary colour but gold accents will be included in the decor.

I like to start by looking at patterns, illustrations, fabric and wallpaper for inspiration and here are some I found that could work great for this event: pattern-1

I just can’t get over indigo! Look at these tables! tablesThese images may be a bit too moody for the Navy by the Sea wedding but I love the simplicity and affordability of option ‘O’. Tables at weddings are usually covered in white linen but imagine how amazing this would look… Plus, it would be pretty easy to hand-dye the tablecloths navy.

As for decor, I don’t think you need to go too crazy when you have the Atlantic Ocean as your backdrop. A nice table arrangement, some great flowers and good lighting are all you need to make the event special. Next week I’ll source affordable decor you can buy or DIY.

starting with navy

It’s Wedding Wednesday and I am excited to jump into a series within my weekly wedding series. I’m going to work through the print and planning process for a wedding. It’s a bit of non-fiction mixed with fiction in the fact that there really is a wedding, I really get to work on it but what you’ll see here is not necessarily what I end up doing for them. You’ll get a bit of what I love mixed with their requests and hopefully everything will come together beautifully.

Lets begin by setting the stage. The August wedding is in Eastern Canada, outdoors at a beautiful home with the Atlantic ocean with a private beach steps away. The couple sails and are drawn to navy and gold.

Have I mentioned how much I love NAVY?!

I made a visual inspiration board to develop the colour palette and mood for the day: navy wedding

A sunny bedroom in a Florida home / a beautiful bouquet with stripe ribbon / a fancy Peach Margarita / Nautical wedding / a couple and their sail boat / Max Wanger’s Big Sur print

Because the wedding will be by the ocean and the couple likes to sail, a nautical theme seems like an obvious choice. However, nautical can be tacky and we don’t want to go there so editing will be crucial! The bride mentioned gold, which is great but I suggested using it more in the decor rather than on the printed items because printing gold can be tricky and expensive. I’ll share ideas of navy patterns and gold decor next week.
